Sonnenerde in Riedlingsdorf/Burgenland is establishing the largest industrial biochar production facility in Europe at its location. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new production building took place on November 2, 2022. The construction work is nearly completed. By the end of July, we will be commissioning the first of a total of 3 PyroDry®5000 units. With this system, 6000 tons of compost screening residues will be processed into biochar, sequestering 3000 tons of CO2 in the process. The exhaust gases from the pyrolysis process will be used to dry 15,000 tons of sewage sludge from the region, increasing its total solids content from 25% to 90% in the STR12 SpeedRotation dryer. Due to the high energy efficiency of the Jumbo drying process, the operation will be energy self-sufficient.
Additional waste heat is available for heating processes and material pre-drying.
