Fish Sludge

1

Calgary

Fish sludge, also known as fish sludge, is produced as a byproduct in fish processing plants or aquaculture facilities. It is a mixture of fish waste, fish excrement, unsellable fish parts such as heads, entrails, scales, and bones, as well as other organic materials.
These wastes are collected and typically need to be disposed of at great expense.
The largest freshwater fish production facility in Calgary, Canada has decided to take an entirely new approach. Three combined heat and power plants (CHP) supply the production with electricity. The exhaust gases from the CHP units serve as an energy source for the new jumbo drying and pelleting plant.
The fish sludge is first dewatered to 25% dry matter using a dewatering screw and then dried in the speed rotation dryer. The drying process is immediately followed by our ZRP250 pelletizer.
The dried fish sludge, which is sanitized by exposure to 300°C hot gas, is processed into pellets and subsequently marketed as high-quality organic nitrogen fertilizer. We have packed the plant in large crates for sea transport and shipped it to Halifax. From there, the goods are loaded onto low loaders for the 4500 km land journey and transported to the recipient.
The commissioning of the plant together with the CHP units is planned for the fall of 2023.
